David and Jewel opened their first store, Abt Radio, in 1936. The remarkable story of Abt Electronics started with an investment of $800 in 1936. Jewel Abt gave $800 to her husband David Abt to start a business. The store was originally named Abt Radio as it only sold small electronics in its early days. The original location was a small storefront and service department in the Logan Square area of Chicago.  David passed away in 1996 and Jewel died in 2003. Their son, Bob, along with his sons, Jon, Billy, Ricky and Mike, who serves as the face of the company, run the business today.

The key to ABT’s 87 years of growth has always been a tireless dedication to customer service. Today, Abt has 114,000 sq.ft. showroom. Over 1700 employees, 400 plus delivery trucks, over 40,000 weekly calls. In 87 years of business excellence, they have served over 4 million customers.

Abt offers free delivery to Chicagoland customers and we have a team of in-house installation professionals available to those who live within a 100 mile radius of the store.

Abt carries LifeFitness and ProForm exercise equipment. We carry LifeFitness treadmills, elliptical machines, exercise bikes, home gyms, and body shape kits. ProForm is another top rated brand of fitness equipment. We carry their treadmills, elliptical machines, exercise bikes, and equipment mats.

Abt has a vast assortment of HDTVs, digital video recorders (DVRs), DVD players, DVD recorders, satellite TV equipment, accessories, and more. We have home theaters, TVs, and video equipment on display so you can see how it will look in your home.

Abt is proud to have one of the largest custom mobile electronics departments in the US. We have 12 fully-equipped installation bays. Our mobile electronics installation department offers the best design, installation, fabrication, programming, and troubleshooting in the region.

Abt has an enormous small electronics department. We carry products ranging from iPods & MP3 Players, Portable DVD Players, E-readers, cameras, camcorders, portable satellite radios, and everything in between. The small electronics department is home to a 7,500 gallon aquarium to entertain families; and the fish make great models for taking tricky practice shots with cameras or camcorders on display.
